The numeracy component of the EEH follows the guidelines of the Jamaican MOEY with regards to math education policy. The guidelines are formulated in a number of documents:

Numeracy Policy

  1. Appendix 1
  2. Appendix 2

The numeracy component of the EEH promotes child-centred approaches to the teaching of mathematics and literacy. Teachers are shown and encouraged to use innovative teaching methods that include the use of manipulatives and technology to promote understanding subject matter in a problem-solving context related to real-world experiences.

In addition to the assistance provided by the PIU, training in child-centred mathematics is provided to schools through collaboration with consultants, Mathematics Resource Specialists and Resource Teachers. The following links are examples of four worksheets produced for a workshop by classroom teachers:

The PIU Mathematics Specialists have produced a number of innovative technology-based mini-guides to teach various aspects of the mathematics curriculum which make full use of visual media, including photography and video. The following are some examples of interactive math operations software made available to EEH schools.
