USAID is an independent U.S. federal agency that provides assistance in support of U.S. foreign policy to achieve economic development in developing countries. USAID's programs advance U.S. foreign policy objectives and promote peace and stability in 100 countries across the globe by fostering economic growth, protecting human health, providing emergency humanitarian assistance, and nurturing democracy.
USAID has been a partner in Jamaica’s development since the island achieved independence in 1962. Currently USAID’s assistance to Jamaica focuses on helping the island create a more competitive business environment, enhancing the education and health of the population, reducing HIV/AIDS and creating safer communities.
